St. Benedict’s Commitment to Supporting Our Unhoused Neighbors
St. Benedict’s Circle is partnering with SOS (Supporters of Shelter) to address a vital need within our community: providing support for the maintenance of a portable toilet for our unhoused neighbors. In Kenosha, hundreds of individuals are living without access to basic sanitation services, and something as fundamental as a clean, safe restroom is crucial for their dignity and health. When public facilities are scarce, people are left with impossible choices that impact not only their well-being, but also the health of the greater community.
Portable toilets present a straightforward and effective solution. They help reduce public health risks, safeguard local businesses and public spaces, and—most importantly—restore dignity to those who already bear so many burdens.
Thanks to the efforts of SOS, a portable toilet has been successfully installed in Midtown at the ELCA Outreach Center. However, the ongoing maintenance of this unit relies on generous private donations to ensure that this essential service is available throughout the year.
To help meet this pressing need, St. Matthew’s has designated one Sunday each month for a special plate offering dedicated to the upkeep of this restroom. We believe this is a tangible way to embody the Gospel’s call to love our neighbors, particularly those who are most vulnerable. This initiative truly reflects our community spirit and the ministry we strive to practice in our everyday lives. Let’s come together to make a positive impact!
