An Overview of What We Believe
The Episcopal Church is a welcoming and inclusive community that invites all individuals to find a spiritual home with us. Rooted in the teachings of Christ, we celebrate our unity while honoring the diversity of beliefs and experiences among us. Our rites of worship are steeped in tradition, and follow the ancient structures found in The Book of Common Prayer.
We believe that all baptized Christians, regardless of their denominational background, are invited to partake in Holy Communion, reflecting our commitment to love and inclusion over uniformity of opinion. Emphasizing love, we also believe in the amendment of life, the forgiveness of sin, and the promise of life everlasting.
At the core of Episcopal belief lies the understanding that the Bible serves as the primary source of our faith. We interpret the Scriptures through the respective lenses of human reason, inspired by God’s Holy Spirit, and the enduring Tradition of the Church. This approach allows us to engage thoughtfully with complex issues of life, such as the affirmation of lifelong, monogamous relationships, while also acknowledging the grace extended to those who have experienced divorce. Furthermore, we believe that personal matters, like birth control and abortion, should be approached through informed conscience. In embracing these tenets, the Episcopal Church strives to create a community where everyone is valued and encouraged on their spiritual journey.
