Soup Kitchen

shalom centerOn the third Sunday of each month, members of St. Matthew’s work at the soup kitchen located at the Shalom Center, 1713-62nd Street, Kenosha.  Tasks include buying produce and other food products, making the soup, preparing sandwiches, and serving the meal.  The soup makers meet at 2:00 p.m. and the rest of the team arrives at 3:30 p.m..  The meal is served between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.  The number of guests served per meal averages between ninety and one hundred.

We participate in this activity as a witness to our faith, remembering that our Lord calls us to serve the needy; Jesus said,  “. . .  as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.”

Offerings to contribute to the expense of the soup kitchen items, as well as packaged and canned foods, are collected weekly in containers at the back of the church for the Shalom Center food pantry.
